While I was in Oregon visiting my brother-in-law, I went to the Portland Art Museum and saw some wood sculptures by Leroy Setziol. They were
abstract geometric carvings in some kind of reddish hardwood. I was really intrigued by them, and while looking at one of them, the idea for this
painting popped into my head. It seems like I took his abstract idea and made it into something representational.
